Simple in the City

I've been needing a make up shake up for a while. Does anybody feel like sometimes the normal casual make up routine gets, well, boring? I'm all about my tried and true products (like the NARS tinted moisturiser and Stila Stay All Day eyeliner) but I've definitely been experimenting more with mascara.

I usually apply Maybelline's 'The Rocket' waterproof mascara in a hurry, while half way running out of the door, but I've been layering it with Bad Gal Lash by Benefit lately. I really like that it is helping hold the curl much better and gives a fluttery effect. Gosh, someone even asked if I had fake eyelashes on, which to me, is ultimate proof that your mascara is doing the job.

So, when I was getting ready to go to Howling Owl's (a record label) 3rd birthday party, I decided to keep my make up, hair and outfit really simple. I wore a black cami, navy/black two-tone trousers from Zara and nude flats. It seems that even though it has been possibly the sunniest summer I can recall, I'm already gearing up for autumn with all these neutrals.

Perhaps I need to inject a bit of Carrie Bradshaw fashion into my wardrobe?

It was a great night to relax and enjoy some of Bristol's laid back music culture, which I really miss when I'm studying at university.

OOTD: Harbour Festival

I headed into Bristol Harbour festival for the second time this weekend, to much better weather! I decided to rock my 1940s style Glamour Bunny dress. It's such a soft and well made dress, especially prepared for the British summer as it is knee length!

I've also been trying out something a bit different with my hair to give it some faux volume, the mini quiff. The idea was to try and do some sort of victory roll, but a short patience and a lot of hairspray later I ended up with this. Either way I'm fairly happy with the result, but victory rolls are definitely on my list of hairstyles to learn!

Here are a few more snaps of my sunny day out in Bristol at the harbour festival. I enjoyed a fantastic lentil burger at one of my favourite places, Start The Bus, and had an amble about with my boyfriend and my best friend.

Bristol Harbour Festival

This is the time of the year when I feel my Bristol pride really kicking in. The harbour festival, is an annual event (rain or shine) with musicians, food markets and loads of other little stalls and events. I love it, so this weekend, even though it was pouring down with rain, I ventured to go and see some of the things on offer. I explored the gorgeous Happy City area of the festival, it hosted a large acoustic stage and focused on alternative therapies, with hay bales to sit on! There were also areas of the harbourside dedicated to food specialities and other areas that promoted charities and local groups in Bristol.

Visiting the harbour festival this weekend was a great day out and reminded me of all the reasons this city remains one of my favourite places to be.

Bristol Harbour Festival is a free annual event, this year held between 18-20th July 2014.

Fashion Obsession: Marc by Marc Jacobs Ballerina Mouse Flats

Whenever I wear these shoes, I get an instant rush of nostalgia. I picked up these cute flats about a year a go in New York (after a lot of debating whether I would wear them enough) and I have worn these so much, as they are a lovely cute twist on a neutral shoe. The leather is so soft, so while it is more effort to maintain them, they wont cut into your feet and are perfectly comfortable choice of shoe when you're looking for a smarter flat to wear out!

I have a huge love for flat shoes, I have a huge love for animal inspired fashion. Put them together and oh my, these are going to be in my shoe collection for a very, very long time.

Summer Staples

Right now I'm blogging from the garden. It is a beautiful day and if the sun is out, I'm going to be outside enjoying it. So I thought I'd put together a few summer staples that have been in my bag and ready for any little appearances of summer in England. With my coconut oil and hand wipes at the ready, let's delve in!

Possibly my favourite after sun lotion I've ever tried is the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration after sun, it has a beautiful fruity smell and is lovely to apply after tanning, though it wouldn't be a great recommendation if you prefer a cooling feeling. This is all about that tropical, holiday smell it has.  I've also had my Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour facial sun screen in my bag all this month. Boasting factor 50, it was a pretty safe buy (especially as I burn so easily) and while it is a great sun screen it can feel a little sticky to apply. That being said, I've yet to find another facial sun screen that is as effective as this one, so it will be staying a staple for the rest of this summer.

Boater hats and big sunglasses? Of course! As a person who sports a dashing squint whenever the sun appears from the clouds, a good pair of sunglasses are always a necessity. At the moment I've been wearing a beautiful pair of Prada tortoise shell ones, though I usually throw a cheaper pair in my bag as a spare.
